The ACR128 DualBoost Contactless Smart Card Reader is a dual interface smart card reader compliant with the ISO 7816 parts 1-3 standard for types A and B contact cards, and the ISO 14443 parts 1-4 standard for types A and B contactless cards.
By combining contact and contactless interfaces in one reader, ACR128 is appropriate for situations where environments favor dual interface applications. For example, one may use ACR128 to settle online payments with EMV Level 1 contact cards while on the other, one may also use it to read outstanding balance in MiFare contactless membership cards. Furthermore, it can also be used as embedded readers in bigger machines and systems such as vending machines, automatic fare collection systems, and public telephone systems.
ACR128 is PC/SC Compliant for contact and contactless interfaces. It makes use of high-speed communication for PICCs (proximity or contactless cards) like DeSFire Cards, for up to a maximum speed of 848 kbps. Furthermore, ACR128 has intelligent support for hybrid cards and combi cards, to an extent where it can still detect a contactless card that has been erroneously inserted into the contact card slot.
Additionally, ACR128 has a built-in SAM card slot that allows for enhanced security needed for different applications requiring different levels of security and functionality. Finally, it uses a landing type card acceptor, which minimizes card damage for more reliable card operations.
